This accessibility statement covers the following NUS websites: nus.org.uk, nus-wales.org.uk, nus-scotland.org.uk, nus-usi.org and nusconnect.org.uk*. It has been designed with accessibility as a priority and we endeavour to meet or exceed current UK accessibility legislation.

Using our site

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. We have included the Recite Me tool bar which means you can:

  • Change contrast levels
  • Modify the font, colours, line height or spacing of text
  • Zoom in up to 200% without text spilling off the screen
  • The text will reflow in a single column when you change the size of your browser window
  • Navigate the website using just a keyboard
  • Translate the website into a different language
  • Listen to the website using a screen reader.

The Recite me toolbar provides text to speech functionality, fully customisable styling features, reading aids and a translation tool with over 100 languages, including 35 text to speech voices and many other features.

We have also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Navigating this website:

There is a consistent navigation system – a navigation toolbar is used throughout.

The links are clearly indicated and labelled throughout the pages of this website.

Web browsers:

Great effort has been made to ensure that this site can be viewed on the majority of browsers.

CSS (Cascading style sheets) have been used throughout the site to ensure consistency and accessibility.

JavaScript alternatives have been provided wherever necessary.

Text:

Text sizes are dynamic enabling the user to increase or reduce the size as necessary.

Images:

Alternative text has been used for each image in this site, ensuring that text browsers and text reader browsers can identify to the user what information the picture contains and what purpose it serves.

Frames:

Frames may hinder navigation for users. For this reason, this site has been developed without the use of frames.

Downloads:

To be able to view any PDF document on this website, you will need to ensure that you have the Adobe Acrobat Reader software installed on your computer from www.adobe.com.

W3C WAI:

This site has been developed closely with W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) web standards and guidelines, ensuring high levels of accessibility.
